Mission Statement Our mission is to train family medicine physicians in advanced, full spectrum reproductive health care with a focus on high risk obstetrics and gynecology.

The Community Medicine Fellowship is a one-year, full-time clinical fellowship in collaboration with Hamilton Community Health Network in Flint, Michigan designed to build knowledge, leadership skills and advocacy training for fellows planning a future career in Community Medicine and interested in improving the health and healthcare of underserved communities. The Women’s Health Fellowship is offered collaboratively with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. We prepare physicians to excel in a wide variety of practice settings.

Program participants will be trained to be collaborative, culturally competent and patient- and family-centered professionals who follow the guiding principles of service, quality, knowledge and diversity. Our program curriculum incorporates several longitudinal rotations, immersing trainees in particular areas of study throughout the entire duration of the training program. The Department is very proud to offer two sports medicine fellowship positions per year in this well established program.

In addition, each fellow will choose a modality for more extensive study. Fellowships in Family Medicine Our Family Medicine Department proudly offers three fellowships - Geriatrics, Hospice and Palliative Care, and an NMM/OMM +1 combined residency/fellowship program. They will have opportunities to teach medical students at the Student Run Free Clinic as well as attend relevant state and national conferences.

Our residency program, established in 1979, has consistently trained excellent physicians in a respectful learning environment. The Family Medicine Center, located adjacent to West Kendall Baptist Hospital, serves as the program’s Family Medicine continuity training site, where personalized, patient- and family-centered care is provided to community members of all ages. The resources of the University allow the Department to continually develop innovative fellowship programs to meet to changing needs of new family physicians and the healthcare system.
